Who is Jesus ?

Creator

He is God

Jesus is God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. When He was finished creating the sun, moon, trees, birds, and land and sea animals, He created humans. The Bible says that God created human beings in His own image. We are created in the image of the God who created the universe around us. What a privilege it is to be imagined and handcrafted in the image of the One who made the intricately designed universe. As the Bible says, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Creation

Not random but purposefully created

God doesn’t need anyone, but He still created us. Why? God created humans to experience the joy of knowing Him. His love overflows, and we are created to receive and reflect that love in everything we do every single day of our lives—whatever it is that we do, whether we eat, drink, or even drive a vehicle. The God-shaped vacuum we feel exists because we were created as vessels to receive God’s love; when we do not, that vacuum is what we feel.

When He created humans, God spent time with them as well. The Bible says that God walked and talked with the first humans He created. The Creator of the world wants to have a relationship with every individual human, and He has plans for every single person.

The Fall

Humans make bad choices

God gave humans the ability to make our own choices. We are not puppets bound by fate and choices made for us; rather, we have free will. God wanted us to use that free will to choose to worship Him. The first humans, however, chose wrongly and sinned against God. And God—who is holy—cannot have anything to do with sin. Therefore, He had to punish them. He sent the first humans away from His presence. There was no more walking and talking with Him. The gap you feel between what is and what could be is the result of what the first humans did. There is a God-shaped vacuum and a God-shaped gap in every human’s life. Every single human being comes into the world with this, and we continue to make bad choices just as the first humans did.

Jesus made a way

What can separate us from the love of God? It was our own bad choices. But even our choices cannot stop God, whose love wanted to find a way. God’s old law provided a way—that only blood could pay for the forgiveness of sin (bad choices). So, humans used to offer up young lambs or other animals in sacrifice for their sins. However, this was only temporary. If they sinned again, they had to offer sacrifices again. The way these sacrifices opened up was not a full restoration of the relationship that God had with the first humans. God sought for a man who would make a wall and stand in the gap before Him, but He found no one. And so, God Himself provided a way. He sent His Son, Jesus, to be the way. And Jesus—Son of God and fully God—was born into this world as a human babe.

Redeemer

Jesus

Jesus was 100% God and 100% human. But Jesus walked in the world without sin; He faced the same choices the first humans failed at—and that we continue to fail at—but He remained without sin. Jesus was God’s sinless lamb, sent for us.

Redeemer

Jesus - sinless lamb of God

In a time, place, and way that God chose, Jesus died for our sins. He was nailed to a cross—a shameful way of dying in the time that He lived—and shed His sinless blood for you and me. He took on shame and punishment so that He could fulfill what God’s holiness required: a perfect sacrifice, given once for all, to cover all human sins of all time.

Redeemer

Jesus repaired the gap

When Jesus gave His sinless blood on the cross, God used that to repair the gap which human sin had created. There was no longer any separation between man and God. Man could approach God with confidence, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Redeemer

Jesus rose from the dead

When Jesus finished the work he came to the world to do, he rose again on the third day from his death. He appeared to his disciples many times before He went up to Heaven

Restoration

Sustainer

God knows that the world is a tough place; He walked the same world, after all. He invites all who are weary to come to Him—to come to Him to be all that they were created to be, and to live and work for His praise and glory in this world while waiting for the world to come.He wasn’t just a historical figure or a good person who lived and said good things two thousand years ago; He was God in human form. A true, intellectually honest meeting with Jesus will not leave anyone the same. Recognizing the gaps and vacuums in our lives and realizing Jesus is the One who fixes them gives life meaning and purpose.

Restoration

Judge

And Jesus is coming again. This time, He will not come as a humble baby; He will come to judge the living and the dead. Everyone will be judged on that day by the way they responded to the message of Jesus when they had the chance and the free choice to do so. Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ shall come again.
